Lessons Learned
Living with a dating teenager has taught me that I should have made the dating age even higher. Sixteen is not a good age no matter how mature you THINK they are. Let's just say that in the opinion of my beautiful sixteen year-old that I am not fair, old-fashioned, mean and I don't care or understand. She forgets that I too was 16 about 31 years ago and I do know and understand but I have to be a responsible parent. Tears are falling and I feel bad that she has to be denied but I feel they are getting too serious so she can only see him once a week and chaperoned. She's feels that's wrong of me and that makes me feel even stronger that it is so right for me to do. Only 4 more girls after her. I'll be a pro by the time the eleven year-olds hit sixteen.

Yikes. It's so difficult to know what to do. If you're too strict, they do stupid things like running away with him (one of my sisters did that) or something equally alarming. If you're not strict enough, they do stupid things too. This is the toughest part of parenting, I think. You are a good parent to stick to your guns. I feel for you, though.
Awwww...remember this, we too cried a lot of tears about our own parents being to strict, and sheltering us too much...and it didnt kill us! Better safe than sorry AND sounds loke a good decision to me...I'm sure I'll be the same in 2 years when my own daughter starts dating (she's allowed at 16 too). She'll get over it, like we all did!

Aaauugghhh!!! Can't they just skip over the teen years? I have to say that having boys is a little better as far as the dating age.

Thank good ness I never had daughters Cathy - couldn't have stood the strain.
Both my daughters reacted to being grounded and/or restricted by taking off. We worked through it but I was the one who had to relent in the end in order to maintain the relationships. By the way, you've been nominated for an award if you would like to call in and collect!
