Hannah wants a bakery made birthday cake for her party on Friday. Could my unfortunate problems with Katherine's cake last month have colored her opinion of my abilities? Here's my problem with her request. She is particular and that is why I have always baked her cakes. They can only be Duncan Hines cake mix. I've tried homemade and Betty Crocker and she says the texture is weird. She has lots of texture issues...LOTS. She doesn't like colored icing. It tastes funny. She likes butter cream icing and uncolored. God help our bakery. She has told me if I get it from there then she will eat it. So, here is the request she wants made for her cake - Two Tiered, White Cake and Icing and Spider Man on top. Yeah, that's my dear seventeen year old girl. She loves super heroes. Iron Man and Spider Man are her favorites. Let's hope they have a plastic something they can place on top and pray for the best. I know what you are thinking...she'll starve when she leaves home but I what I fear most is that she will never leave home!

for some reason when i was younger I always wanted a store bought cake instead of my mom making one at home. I don't know why.
Bless you! My fingers are crossed that she loves her cake.
Good luck to all of you--but at least she tells you what she really wants! My oldest never speaks up, and just shrugs when asked, and I always worry she's not happy.
I always found bakery cakes sickly-sweet. My mother made me a funny-recipe cake when I was ten or so that I LOVED, and it became my birthday cake every year---though it was never as good as it was the first time. She'd made some mistake with it then, and funny the mistake made it better. But she never remembered what it had been!
Happy Birthday week to Hannah! The days before always seem the best.
Hey Jason! I've heard the mountains are calling you home. I hope we get to see you soon.
Beth, let me tell you she is one of a kind and I love her tobits but her issues with food drive me bananas!
Susan, you over-achieving blogger! I can't get caught up on reading them. Hannah has always liked her cakes homemade so the request for bakery made is unusual. I'm afraid she'll be disappointed. I've halfa mind to go by there tomorrow and get a small cake for her sample. I'm sure the other kids will not complain!
